Malkangiri: A woman and her two young daughters have been hospitalised in a critical condition after allegedly consuming poison at Kateliguda in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
The three are undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri and their condition is stated to be critical.
Sources said the family had been under severe emotional distress following the death of the woman’s husband who had also reportedly consumed poison a week ago.
Apparently shattered by the tragedy, the three allegedly took the extreme step. However, the circumstances in which they consumed poison are yet to be ascertained. Police are trying to determine the exact reason behind the drastic step taken by the family.
Doctors at the hospital said they are providing all necessary medical support and the condition of all three is now stable. The woman and her twin daughters were admitted on Saturday night after they allegedly consumed yellow oleander seed, they said.
Following the incident, police have launched a probe and are collecting statements of relatives and neighbours to understand the events that preceded the attempted suicide.
