Puri: In an bid to ensure discipline and improve the overall experience for devotees, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has initiated measures to streamline the functioning of Anand Bazar inside the Puri 12th century shrine in Odisha’s Puri.
Significant reform measures to regulate the sale and consumption of Abadha were discussed threadbare at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Administrator of SJTA Aravinda Kumar Padhee on Tuesday. The temple administration has decided to introduce a fixed price list for Abadha and ‘Sukhili Bhog’ items to curb irregularities and ensure transparency.
Sources said separate counters are proposed to be opened for the sale and consumption of ‘Sukhili Bhog’ and Mahaprasad. The SJTA has also issued instruction for the use of only Omfed ghee in the preparation of bhog. Action will be taken against Suar-Mahasuar servitors violating this norm.
Deliberations were also held on the daily supply of firewood, which currently stands at 35 quintals, to ensure uninterrupted cooking at the temple kitchen. Plans are underway to introduce organic rice for the preparation of bhog.
The meeting also proposed introduction of a dress code and identity cards for Supakar servitors’ assistants working in Anand Bazar to maintain hygiene and discipline.
Narayan Mahasuara, secretary of the Suara-Mahasuar Nijog, said discussions also covered the functioning of newly constructed Khaja shops and firewood supply logistics.
These reforms mark a significant step in enhancing the spiritual and operational integrity of one of the 12th century shrine at the seaside pilgrim town.
