Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended an accountant of Block Education Officer, Puri, and Amin at the office of Tehsildar, Saintala, in Balangir districts while allegedly accepting bribe.
The accountant, Bikash Kumar Senapati, was allegedly caught taking Rs 5,000 which he had demanded from a teacher, who retired in May 2022, to issue NOC to release his gratuity. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from Senapati, a Vigilance release said.
Nirmalendu Kabi, the Amin, was delaying the process to demarcate a land as per orders of the court of Tehsildar and had allegedly demanded Rs 8,000 for the purpose from a person, who then approached the Vigilance authorities. The Amin was trapped while accepting the bribe money from the complainant.
Following the traps, simultaneous searches are on to ascertain where Senapati and Kabi had accumulated assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
They have also been booked under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, the release added.
