Cuttack: A series of interesting developments took place in the prestigious Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack in last two days over the issue of ragging.
The university authorities took disciplinary action against ten third year undergraduate students for allegedly ragging some juniors in the East Hostel on the campus. The seniors were accused of abusing and harassing newly admitted first-year students on Saturday night.
However, the alleged incident has now taken a dramatic turn, with first-year students denying that any ragging had taken place in the hostel.
As per information, the juniors on Monday sent a representation to the Vice-Chancellor, claiming they were pressured by hostel authorities to falsely implicate their seniors, who were later asked to vacate the hostel.
The fresh development comes just a day after the university announced disciplinary action against ten third-year students for alleged ragging.
The first-year students have now alleged that they were forced by the hostel superintendent and other staff to accuse their seniors of ragging.
The juniors further claimed that the accused seniors were engaging in a friendly and informative discussion when the chief warden suddenly intervened, accused them of ragging, and initiated punitive action.
The representation submitted by the juniors demands immediate revocation of disciplinary measures and reinstatement of the seniors into the hostel.
Meanwhile, several of the seniors who were asked to vacate staged a peaceful protest outside the East Hostel, seeking a fair inquiry and restoration of their reputations.
