Active COVID Tally Crosses 400 In Odisha; 50% New Cases From Khurda
Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload in Odisha inched closer to 70 again with 68 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the active cases past 400 on Sunday.
The state had reported 62 and 61 cases in the last two days after a significant spike of 73 on Thursday, which is the highest in a day in the past more than two months.
According to the I & PR department, 40 of the new infections are from quarantine and 28 local contacts. Twelve among them are children in the age group of 0-18 years.
Here are the district-wise figures of the new cases:
1. Balasore: 1
2. Cuttack: 6
3. Deogarh: 1
4. Jajpur: 1
5. Khurda: 34
6. Koraput: 1
7. Nayagarh: 1
8. Sambalpur: 3
9. Sundargarh: 11
Besides, 9 from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 11,501 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 0.59 per cent. Odisha now has 431 active cases.
Despite the noticeable rise in cases, the government is yet to increase testing, which has dropped to 11,000 from 20,000 last month. The number of COVID-free districts has touched 7 from 17 on May 23.
