Actor Sooraj Pancholi Acquitted By Mumbai Court In Jiah Khan’s Death By Suicide Case

New Delhi: Actor Sooraj Pancholi acquitted by Mumbai court in Jiah Khan’s death by suicide case for lack of evidence. Khan had died by suicide at her Juhu home on June 3, 2013. Pancholi was facing the charge under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
Soon after the hearing began, the court pushed the order by about two hours after the complainant, Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan, said she wanted to file written arguments.

Ahead of the verdict, Sooraj Pancholi’s mother Zarina Wahab said, “I know my son is innocent. I am fully confident that my son will get justice, because he is innocent.”

The trial in the case began in 2019. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), examined 22 witnesses in the case, including Khan’s mother Rabia and her sisters. Rabia, through multiple pleas filed before courts including the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court, had sought for Pancholi to face charges of murder, claiming that Khan had not died by suicide.
