Kolkata: Actress Arya Banerjee, who acted in several Bollywood movies like ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘LSD: Love Sex Aur Dhoka’ was found dead at her residence in south Kolkata on Friday.
The cops had to break open the door of her apartment on the third floor only to find that the body of the 33-year-old woman lying in the bedroom.
The actress’ domestic help sensed something is wrong when Arya didn’t respond to doorbells or phone calls from her in the morning. The neighbours were informed and the cops were called to the spot. According to the domestic help, Arya lived alone and mostly kept to herself.
Cops said that the body was sent for post mortem examination and samples have been collected by a forensic team from her room.
“Primarily there appears to be no foul play. The exact cause of death will be known when the post-mortem report reaches us,” a senior police officer from the Lake Police Station was quoted as saying by Telegraph.
“She was getting her food through app-based delivery platforms for some time now. She used to spend time with her pet dog. Neighbours said she didn’t mix with anyone in the locality. We are trying to find out who would visit the house for any work. Her call details are being scanned to see if she was in any distress and if she had received any food from outside in the last 24 hours,” police said.
Arya was the daughter of late sitarist Nikhil Bandyopadhyay. Before venturing into films, she had also done some modelling assignments in Mumbai.
