Bhubaneswar: Abandoned by her parents and growing up in an orphanage, a girl child from Odisha has finally got a new home. Adopted by a US couple — David Hasley and AB Hasely — the girl named Punya flew off with them to the US on Wednesday.
Punya, who is differently-abled since birth, was found abandoned outside an ashram in Cuttack two years ago in 2020. She was left in a cradle outside the ashram probably by her parents as she is afflicted with polio. She was rescued by Childline officials and rehabilitated at Bashundhara Child Care Centre. She was named Punya.
Finally, she has found a new home after the US couple decided to adopt her.
“India is most beautiful and its people very nice. When we thought of adoption, the first country that came to our minds was India,” David was quoted as saying.
“We will not lessen our love and affection towards her. We will try to provide the best medical treatment to her,” he said.
AB Hasley said they were looking forward to building a bright future for Punya.
