Guwahati: Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the deadly African Swine Fever (ASF) has taken the lives of around 13,000 pigs in Assam affecting the livelihood of thousands of already economically distressed people in the animal resource trade.
Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Atul Bora said, “Today, we had a long discussion with the district administration, veterinarians and the Kaziranga National Park authorities on the outbreak of ASF.”
Earlier this month, Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Atul Bora had visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the National Research Centre and Regional Institute of Livestock Entrepreneurship Management on Pigs in this connection.
According to Atul Bora, ASF was last reported in China in 2019 and early this year. In January and February, it was reported in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, respectively.
