After 30 Years, Game’s Up For Absconding Murder Accused In Odisha

Berhampur/Cuttack: After evading arrest for 20 years, a murder accused ran out of luck during the special drive launched by Odisha Police on March 7 to execute all pending non-bailable warrant (NBW).

The accused, identified as Rajendra Das, 42, alias Bula Das of Sarabhimapur village under Chhatrapur police station limits, was nabbed from Purushottampur on Wednesday night, Chhatrapur police station IIC Priyas Ranjan Chotray told the PTI.

Rajendra along with two others of the same village had allegedly killed the son of Gopi Das on October 16, 2000. His decomposed body was recovered on January 19, 2001.

Police had arrested two persons in this connection and have been convicted by the court.  Rajendra, however, had been missing since then.

Police raided Purushottampur after getting a tip-off that he had changed his name to Bula Das and was working as a mason in the village.

Another murder accused, who had been on the run for 30 years, was arrested from Kalingapadara village under Tarsingi police station limits in Ganjam district on Tuesday. Pradip Nayak alias Das had allegedly committed murder in Cuttack in 1991.

These followed the arrest of Bibekananda Biswal alias Biban more than two decades after the sensational Anjana Mishra gangrape case, from Lonavala, Pune, where he was living under an assumed identity, on February 22.
