Pensioner Falls Prey To Cyber Fraud In Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: In yet another case of a senior citizen falling prey to cyber fraud, a retired employee of Nalco in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district lost Rs 27,000 from his SBI account to fraudsters.

The pensioner, identified as Debabrat Sahu of Kheras village lodged a complaint with cyber police station.

In his complaint, Sahu said surpisingly the man knew his account of SBI main branch Jagatsinghpur as well as PAN card details.

“I got a call when I was doing my daily chores. The caller said cash is being deducted regularly from my bank account and he offered help to block it if I give my consent,” said Sahu.

“He also read out my bank account number and PAN card number,” claimed Sahu.

Sahu said though both numbers were correct, he did not allow blocking of the account suspecting it to be a proxy call.

“The caller said Rs 20,000 has already been deducted from my account and it will continue unless I ask him to block the transactions. I disconnected the call.

He called a few minutes later and informed Sahu that Rs 7,000 more has been debited.

“On checking on my app found that Rs 27,000 was deducted in two transactions,” Sahu added.

Cyber police has started an investigation into the matter.
