After Cuttack, ‘Sahabhagita’ Initiative Launched In Bhubaneswar To Prevent & Detect Crime

Bhubaneswar: A day after a video of a group of masked youths unleashing terror by brandishing swords and attacking vehicles at Sisupalgarh in Odisha capital went viral, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday launched Sahabhagita initiative, which aims to bring the city under close watch to prevent and detect crime.

“CCTV cameras play an important role in city surveillance, crime prevention and detection and traffic management. The initiative was initially launched in Cuttack city in July 2022 by the Cuttack Urban Police Department. Currently, more than 600 community (private) CCTV cameras are linked to police control room and helping in crime prevention and detection,” Commissioner of Police (CP) Soumendra Priyadarshi informed.

The CP said that this initiative is now being extended to Bhubaneswar. “We appeal to CCTV camera owners of common locations like malls, markets, business houses, banks and apartments to link their CCTV footage with us by sharing their IP addresses and keep at least one camera facing the road which can help track the movement of people. This information will be kept confidential,” he said.

He asked them to contact local IIC or call on mobile number 94392 24441 to be part of the initiative.
