Mumbai: Lara Dutta recently played the role of Indira Gandhi in Akshay Kumar-starrer Bell Bottom. Her performance in the espionage thriller was highly acclaimed.
Soon, the character of former Indian Prime Minister will be seen in another landmark film – Vicky Kaushal-spearheaded Sam Bahadur, to be directed by Meghna Gulzar. And it will be Fatima Sana Shaikh who will be essaying Mrs Gandhi’s role.
The Dangal actress has already started preparing for the role of the charismatic Mrs Gandhi. Not only is she reading books but also watching documentaries on India’s only female PM to study her character and mannerisms.
The film is on the life and career of Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal and had a glorious career spanning four decades.
Sanya Malhotra will essay the role of Vicky’s wife, Silloo Manekshaw.
“I’m very happy to join the Sam Bahadur family and take on the challenge of essaying the role of one of the most influential and talked about women in Indian history. What intrigued and excited me the most was the passion with which the makers hope to honour his memory and legacy through this film,” Fatima had said.
