Bhubaneswar: Nor’wester-induced rain, albeit with lesser intensity, is likely to continue in Odisha till March 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal districts on March 23.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely at a few places in North Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and at one or two places in South Coastal Odisha , Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Nuapada.
On March 24, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been sounded for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts. Light rain may also occur at one or two places in Coastal Odisha.
The weather agency has also forecast a gradual rise in the day temperature by 4-6°C during the next 4-5 days in the state. The night temperature may also witness an upward wing by 2-3°C during this period, it added.
On Saturday, the rains paused the heatwave and brought much-needed relief from the unusual hot conditions that had gripped the state. But at the same time, two persons, including a Class X student, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike, and over 600 houses damaged due to hailstorm in Mayurbhanj district. Several residential localities faced waterlogging and flooding as heavy rains and strong winds lashed Berhampur city. The Odisha Fire and Emergency Service personnel launched water evacuation at various places and removed felled trees near the national highway, on MKCG Medical College and Hospital premises of the city.

Chhatrapur received the highest rainfall of 62.8 mm on the day, followed by Cuttack (21.2 mm), Chandbali (16.4 mm), Balasore and Nayagarh (15 mm) and Gopalpur (14.2 mm). Bhubaneswar received around 10 mm rain, according to the regional met office.
