Agitating Block Grant Teachers Launch Indefinite Stir
Bhubaneswar: Agitating block grant teachers, who have been staging dharna in front of 57 matric evaluation centres since March 20, launched an indefinite strike at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Monday.
“The state government has been showing a step-motherly attitude to the teachers. This has forced us to stage an indefinite strike to put pressure on the government to fulfill our longstanding demands including withdrawal of affidavit order to avail grant-in-aid”, a member of Odisha School College Teachers and Employees’ Joint Forum said.
Over 7,000 block grant college teachers have decided not to cooperate with the government in evaluation of Plus II answer sheets scheduled to begin from April 4, the member of the joint forum added.
Meanwhile, school and mass education minister Badri Narayan Patra has said that evaluation of answer sheets is the part of the duty of a teacher. alternate arrangements will be put in place, if the teachers continue to boycott the evaluation process, the minister added.
The government has also asked all the degree/autonomous colleges, model degree colleges, higher secondary institutions affiliated to CHSE and self financing higher secondary institutions to submit a list of teachers by March 27 for participation in Plus II answer evaluation.
