New Delhi: Ahead of the state assembly elections in Haryana, the Congress Party expelled 10 leaders in its state unit for six years for being involved in anti-party activities. This comes two days after 13 other leaders were expelled for the same period in its Haryana unit for the same reason.

The party had announced its decision by releasing a press statement in this regard. The decision has been approved by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge. The leaders who have been expelled are Chitra Sarwara, Satvinder Rana, Kapoor Singh Narwal, Virender Ghoghrian, Somveer Ghasola, Hands Kosliya, Ajit Guliya, Sharda Rathore, Lalit Nagar and Satveer Bhana.

As per an official letter, Virender Gogria and Somvir Ghasola were also suspended with immediate effect for six years on Sunday.

“Consequent upon the receipt of reports through various means of communication pertaining to party leaders having found indulged in anti-party activities by fighting the ongoing assembly election against the parts candidates and to curb indiscipline in the party, the following persons are hereby expelled from the party for 6 years with immediate effect,” the letter read, as quoted by NDTV.

On September 27, Congress had expelled its 13 leaders for six years for same reason. Among those expelled was Sajjan Singh Dhull, the former candidate from the Pundri and Pai Legislative Assembly. Dhull had joined Congress last year in December.

The Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee had claimed that it received reports of these leaders or workers fighting the ongoing assembly election against the party-nominated candidates.

On September 28, Congress chief in Haryana,  Chief Udai Bhan, had sought stern action against nine rebels, who are contesting against the party’s official nominees. Some of them are also supporting candidates of other parties.

Haryana will go to polls on October 5 to elect a 90-member state legislative assembly. The counting will take place on October 8.

In 2019, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats in Haryana. Congress won 30 seats.
