Bhubaneswar: The political landscape in Odisha is heating up as a series of high-profile visits by top national leaders are scheduled for July.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to embark on a one-day official tour of Odisha on July 4. His itinerary is likely to feature a mix of high-level government and major party organisational events. While political circles are already buzzing with preparations, an official confirmation and finalised schedule from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are still awaited.
Shah’s visit assumes significance with three-tier panchayat elections scheduled for February next year. The saffron party would be looking for an encore of its 2024 performance banking on its achievement in the last two years in office.
Adding to the state’s high-profile calendar, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan is also slated for a one-day official visit shortly after, on July 9. The Vice President is scheduled to participate in a series of socio-cultural and official programmes in the state capital.
These upcoming visits come on the heels of a historic joint visit by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj on June 20. The landmark event marked the second anniversary of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s BJP government in office. Under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara”, the leaders unveiled a massive infrastructure package worth over Rs 47,600 crore.
