New Delhi: The AICC Screening Committee on Monday began scrutinising the list of candidates sent by the Odisha Pradesh Election Committee for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections scheduled from April 11.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik, leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra, Odisha prabhari Jitender Singh and temporary prabhari TS Singhdeo, and three members of AICC’s screening committee for Odisha, V. D. Satheesan (chairperson), Naushad Solanki and Jitin Prasad, are at the meeting.
While the OPEC has already prepared the list of probable candidates, the AICC Screening Committee will scrutinise the names on the basis of reports collected after interacting with local workers and leaders of the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies during its recent two-phase visit to Odisha.
As decided, a meeting of the Central Election Committee of the AICC will be convened soon after the scrutiny is completed. In the meeting, a final list of candidates will be prepared. The CEC will later send the list to AICC president Rahul Gandhi for approval.
Sources said the Congress has decided to announce the list of candidates for all states and Union territories within the next week.
