Bhubaneswar: The authorities of the AIIMS-Bhubaneswar have formed an expert committee for the management and monitoring of the treatment of a girl, who was set on fire by miscreants in Balanga area of Puri district on Saturday.
The victim, a Plus II student, is now undergoing treatment at the burn unit of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
The 14-member panel constituted by the premier health institute includes experts from various departments, including General Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Burn and Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Trauma and Emergency, FMT, O&G, and Nephrology.
Dr Sanjay Giri, Additional Professor at the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery has been made the member secretary of the committee, according to an office order issued by the Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
“The Committee can co-opt any other faculty member of any other chemical department as and when required and shall do the best possible management for the patient. The treatment shall be provided free of cost as decided by the government,” the order said.
In anther significant step, the AIIMS authorities urged people to refrain from congregating at the entry point and lobby of the hospital.
“There are many patients inside the hospital. Public gathering will hamper patient care and increase the chance of infection,” said the Medical Superintendent in a notice.
Notably, the girl was walking to her friend’s house at Bayabar in the morning when three bike-borne miscreants intercepted her, doused petrol, and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene. Locals rushed to the victim’s and sent her to the hospital.
The victim sustained severe burn injuries over approximately 70% of her body and was initially admitted to the emergency department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. She was subsequently shifted to the Burn Centre of the hospital for specialised treatment and intensive care.
