AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Launches Advanced Care For Patients With Severe Urinary Incontinence

Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, has launched Artificial Urinary Sphincters (AUS) implantation service to provide advanced care to patients with severe urinary incontinence.

It is the first to start the service in Odisha.

According to AIIMS sources, AUS implantation procedure is recognised as a gold standard treatment for urinary incontinence in patients not responding to conventional treatment modalities. Patients experiencing urinary incontinence due to prostate surgery, spinal cord injuries, or other underlying conditions that affect urinary control will gain from it.

“With the introduction of AUS implantation services in AIIMS, the people of Odisha and Eastern India will have access to the service, for which they had to travel to centres in other states earlier,” said Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas.

The AUS service will be provided by a team of highly-skilled urologists and surgeons trained in the use of latest techniques and state-of-the-art technology, AIIMS officials said.

“The initiation of the AUS implantation service represents a pivotal step in our commitment to offering comprehensive and advanced medical treatments,” said Assistant Professor, Department of Urology, Sambit Tripathy.
