AIIMS-Bhubaneswar To Get Three Advanced Diagnostic Facilities Soon
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Health Research have sanctioned three advanced diagnostic facilities for AIIMS- Bhubaneswar to facilitate study of viral disorders, fungal disorders and common cancers.
Named Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL), Advanced Mycology Diagnostic and Research Centre (AMDRC), and DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) Centre, all three will be functional soon.
The Microbiology Department of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has been selected as the state-level VRDL by ICMR for the Odisha under the National scheme of ‘Setting up of Nationwide Network of Laboratories for Managing Epidemics and National Calamities’, sanctioned by Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has received a grant of 1.98 crore for the establishment of VRDL facility.
Further, the ICMR has selected Mycology Laboratory of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar’s Department of Microbiology to set up an Advanced Mycology Diagnostic and Research Centre.
A budget of Rs 5 crore over five years has been approved, subject to satisfactory annual performance.
These apart, the Department of Pathology has been identified as DIAMOnDS centre for the eastern region. The DIAMOnDS centre will be providing advanced molecular diagnostic services for breast cancer and lung cancer.
All these new facilities will provide state-of-art diagnostic services for patients at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and several other hospitals situated in Odisha.
All laboratory services in these centres will be free of cost for patients.
