Nuapada: An ailing leopard died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in Odisha’s Nuapada district. The wild animal was reportedly suffering from Babesiosis, an infectious disease.
Sources said the leopard was undergoing treatment in Amakoni forest under Dharambandha area in the district.
Forest department officials had rescued the ailing leopard near Siliaribahara village under Dharamabandha section of Nuapada Sadar forest range on April 16.
Veterinarians and researchers were closely monitoring its condition. Veterinarians had also advised that the leopard be shifted to some place having better health facilities.
The animal was being treated in the range office before death. The forest officials were reportedly unwilling to send the leopard outside Nuapada for treatment.
The animal had been rescued after villagers spotted the leopard withering around in pain this morning and informed the Forest department. They had also clicked his pictures and recorded videos on find that it looked ill and was unable to walk.
