New Delhi: A 46-year-old woman, an air hostess by profession, has complained that she was sexually assaulted by a staff of the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on April 6. She claims that she was on ventilator support at the ICU of the hospital then and was in no condition to resist. She has also alleged that two nurses were present when the crime occurred, but they did nothing to prevent it.
According to The Times of India, the woman is from West Bengal and was in Gurugram to attend a training programme at Darbaripur in Gurugram’s Sector 75. On April 5, the air hostess fell seriously ill after a swim in the pool of the hotel where she had put up. She was admitted to the ICU of the Medanta Hospital and put on a ventilator.
After being discharged from the hospital on Sunday (April 13), she informed her husband of the incident and registered an FIR at the Sadar police station. A case was registered for molestation and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita the next day.
Medanta Hospital, in a statement, has maintained that it is cooperating fully with the police probe. “We have been made aware of a complaint from a patient and have been fully cooperating with the investigations conducted by the relevant authorities. At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the hospital for the time period in question, have been handed over to the police.” The statement issued by the hospital says.
The police claimed that given the seriousness of the allegations, a special investigation team has been set up under an ACP. “The team has collected CCTV camera footage from the hospital and is questioning employees who may have interacted with the patient during her stay,” Gaurav, DCP (East) has been quoted by TOI as saying.
