Kolkata: Air India just can’t get out of the news, for the wrong reasons.
Its services have been greatly affected since the London Gatwick-bound AI-171 Dreamliner flight crashlanded on a hostel building of BJ Medical College, within 32 seconds of taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai airport on June 12.
Around 15% of its domestic and international flights have been curtailed, and several other flights have been disrupted, delayed or cancelled.
On Sunday, another Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft was diverted to Kolkata due to “persistent warm temperature experienced in the cabin”, the airline said.
Flight AI-357, which was headed to Delhi from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, had to make a “precautionary stop” at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International airport.
“Air India flight AI357 operating from Haneda to Delhi on 29 June 2025 made a precautionary diversion to Kolkata due to persistent warm temperature experienced in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely in Kolkata and is currently undergoing checks,” Air India stated.
All “necessary support” is being provided to passengers to “minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen diversion,” Air India said.
“Alternative arrangements are being made to fly our passengers to Delhi at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers,” the airline added.
