Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai International Airport and Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati have made it to the list of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports 2026.

This is a prestigious global recognition presented by the Prix Versailles architecture and design awards, according to a report by Mid-day.

The two facilities, operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), were recognised for their architectural excellence, sustainability, innovation, cultural identity and passenger experience.

The Prix Versailles, an annual global architecture and design award, presented at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, has recognised excellence in the field since 2015. The programme honours airports and terminals that successfully combine striking architecture with functionality, environmental sustainability and traveller comfort, News18 reported.

The two Indian airports have joined prominent aviation hubs in China, Germany, Cambodia and the United States, it has been reported.

Terminal 1 of Navi Mu

mbai International Airport was apparently recognised for its striking lotus-inspired architecture and futuristic design. The airport blends advanced technology, public art and modern infrastructure to create a gateway intended to reflect India’s expanding role in the global economy.

The project goes beyond mere architectural appeal and is expected to strengthen air connectivity while supporting economic growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The airport terminal in Guwahati drew recognition for its bamboo orchid-inspired design, a tribute to northeastern India’s rich natural heritage and biodiversity. The terminal incorporates sustainable and biophilic design principles while showcasing the region’s cultural traditions and natural heritage.

Located between South and Southeast Asia, the airport serves as a key gateway to northeastern India and is an important link for regional connectivity.

The recognition reflects its focus on developing world-class airport infrastructure that balances architectural excellence with operational efficiency and environmental responsibility, the Adani Airport Holdings Limited said.

Airports have evolved beyond transport hubs to become important catalysts for tourism, regional development and economic growth, the company noted.

Three airports or terminals from the 2026 shortlist will receive additional World Titles later this year for exceptional interior or exterior design achievements, Prix Versailles has announced.

This achievement underscores India’s growing ambitions in aviation infrastructure and reinforces the country’s emerging reputation for combining innovative design with sustainable development.
