New Delhi: The black box from the business jet that crashed in Baramati on January 28, killing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others, has been transported to Delhi for detailed examination by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), officials said.
The aircraft, registration VT-SSK, crashed while attempting a second landing after a go-around at Baramati. The black box — a flight data recorder that captures crucial flight parameters and cockpit communications — is now in the AAIB laboratory in Delhi, where investigators will decode and analyse the data.
An official involved in the investigation, quoted anonymously in a Hindustan Times report, confirmed that the wreckage of the aircraft has been lifted from the accident site and will also be transported to Delhi for further technical examination.
A black box plays a critical role in aviation accident investigations by providing flight data and cockpit voice information. Its decoding often helps clarify the sequence of events leading up to a crash.
The civil aviation ministry has not released any official statement on the development.
Five people died in the crash, including Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer, the pilot-in-command, the first officer and another crew member.
Officials said that all evidence from the day of the accident, including air traffic control logs and recordings, has been sealed and is in AAIB custody. The Baramati airstrip remains closed for flight operations pending further investigation.
