All England Open: PV Sindhu Enters Semi-Finals

Birmingham: Reigning world badminton champion PV Sindhu came back from behind to enter the women’s singles semi-finals of the All England Open Championships here on Friday. The Indian posted a hard-fought win over Japanese third seed Akane Yamaguchi.

Sindhu beat Akane 16-21, 21-16, 21-19 in one hour and 16 minutes in the quarterfinal of the Super 1000 tournament.

Fifth seed Sindhu will face sixth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the semi-finals.

Earlier, Pornpawee got the better of unseeded Beiwen Zhang of the USA 7-21, 21-13, 21-9 in 38 minutes in another quarterfinal.

However, India’s Lakshya Sen bowed out in the quarter-finals after losing to the Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw 17-21, 21-16, 17-21. The match that lasted 55 minutes saw the end of the Indian challenge in men’s singles.
