Paradip: In a move towards strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has introduced the C Shift, running from 10 pm to 6 am, for its women employees at its Paradip Pellet Plant in Odisha.

This follows the successful implementation of A and B shifts for women in 2024, under the company’s flagship diversity initiative – ‘Steel Sheros’. The introduction of women employees in all shifts is a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to foster an inclusive and empowered workplace, a company press release said on Saturday.

The launch event witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees across all levels, including Heads of Departments, Section Heads, and members of the Senior Leadership Team. In a celebratory and inspiring atmosphere, 21 female employees were formally welcomed into the C Shift with grand felicitations by peers, colleagues, and managers.

Addressing the gathering during the launch ceremony, Suresha G Executive Director, Odisha Operations, AM/NS India said, “We salute the courage and commitment of these 21 pioneering women. Our vision to achieve 25% female representation in the workforce reflects our belief in diversity as a catalyst for innovation and excellence. Through programs like Steel Sheros, and with the collaborative support of HR and Operations, we aim to nurture women leadership and create an environment where women can thrive. I urge our women employees to be confident, fearless, and always prioritize safety while carrying out their duties with grace.”

Debabrata Dash, Head – HR, East, AM/NS India lauded the initiative by stating, “Today marks a historic moment for AM/NS India. This occasion stands as a testament to the unity and resilience of our women employees. The collective efforts of various departments and the unwavering support of our leadership have made this possible. By promoting inclusive shift operations and enabling skill development, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where women can grow, lead, and succeed holistically—mentally, physically, and professionally.”

USR Raju, Plant Head, Paradeep Pellet Plant, AM/NS India commended the participants and said, “The dedication of our women employees is essential in positioning Odisha Operations as a top-performing team. I encourage them to harness their strengths, strive for excellence, and build fulfilling careers at AM/NS India.”

These women employees will now be deployed across key operational areas including IDB, Filtration, and Balling Building.

This milestone is the culmination of a year-long journey, beginning with the training of women OJTs and GETs. A dedicated task force comprising members from HR, IR, Administration, Plant Operations, Security, and Medical Services ensured regulatory compliance and obtained necessary approvals. Comprehensive measures have been taken to create a safe and secure work environment for women, including enhanced infrastructure, dedicated female security personnel, medical support with female attendants, and 24×7 CCTV surveillance.
