Mumbai: Unimpressed with Malaika Arora’s new music video ‘Chillgum’ with Yo Yo Honey Singh, netizens are trolling her for vulgarity on social media.
Defending her music video amid backlash, Malaika called it a perfect blend of ‘glamour and madness.’
“Working on Chillgum was an absolute blast – it’s bold, full of attitude, and pure fun. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s energy is so infectious that you can’t help but match his vibe when you’re on set,” Malaika was quoted as saying by IANS.
“This song has that perfect mix of glamour, groove, and madness – the kind that instantly lifts your mood. It let me explore a more playful, carefree side on screen, and I think audiences are going to feel that energy too,” she added.
When the teaser of ‘Chillgum’ was shared on Instagram, netizens slammed Malaika for vulgarity and urged the makers to delete it.
In a recent interview with THR India, Malaika opened up about being a part of item songs. “Earlier, they were mostly about glamour and spectacle, often detached from a woman’s individuality. Today, filmmakers are more conscious… they integrate these numbers into stories with stronger character context. It’s less about being provocative and more about performance and presence. I see it as an evolution where women can own their space.”
