Ahmedabad: A flight of IndiGo bound for Hyderabad was diverted on Thursday after a bomb threat forced authorities to intervene. Flight 6E 058, which originated from Medina (Saudi Arabia) en route to Hyderabad, made an emergency landing at Ahmedabad Airport following the alleged threat.
On board were 180 passengers and 6 crew members, according to airport sources. The threat triggered immediate security protocols. The aircraft was diverted, landed safely, and passengers were disembarked for further checks.
No official public statement has yet confirmed whether the threat was verified or deemed a hoax; security teams at Ahmedabad initiated a thorough sweep of the aircraft.
Zone 4 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Atul Bansal told PTI that the flight landed safely at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad around 12:30 PM.
“When the flight was on its way to Hyderabad from Madinah, someone sent an email to IndiGo claiming that a bomb had been planted on the aircraft. Since Ahmedabad was the closest airport, the pilot decided to land here as a precautionary measure,” Bansal said.
This incident adds to a string of security-related disruptions in recent weeks involving flights operated by the airline, raising fresh concerns about aviation safety and airline-wide operational disturbances.
