Mumbai: Ranveer Singh, who is currently basking in the massive success of ‘Dhurandhar’, reignited the fixed work-hour debate as an old interview of im resurfaced on social media.
Ranveer is seen vouching for working beyond the 8-hour shift to complete his work properly.
“A lot of times people complain…other artists and their management complain ki ‘Yaar tu sabko bigaad raha hai.’ Sab log bolte hain ‘8 ghanta ki shift mein tu 10-12 ghanta kabhi shooting karta hai. Fir hum log ko bhi karna padta hai.’ (A lot of times, people complain…other artists and their management say, ‘You’re messing things up for everyone.’ Everyone says, ‘You sometimes shoot 10–12 hours in an 8-hour shift, so we also have to do it’),” Ranveer told Bollywood Hungama in 2022.
“But ab 8 ghanta mein wo cheez jo hum chahte hain, wo nahi bani toh theek hai na. Aap karlo thodi si zyada shooting. I’m not that kind of partner who sees it as a transaction. (But if what we want isn’t achieved in 8 hours, then it’s fine. You can do a little extra shooting),” he added.

Last month, at the trailer launch event of ‘Dhurandhar’, filmmaker Aditya Dhar revealed that the entire team, including actors, worked for 16-18 hours a day over one-and-a-half years and no one complained about the hectic schedule.
“We have worked 16-18 hours continuously for 1.5 years. Yet, not once did anyone complain about the workload. Everybody has given their 100 per cent, including Ranveer Singh,” he said.
It was Ranveer’s wife Deepika Padukone who had triggered the debate over fixed work hours after her exit from ‘Spirit’ and ‘Kalki 2’
Talking about how motherhood changed her approach, Deepika told Harper’s Bazaar, “We’ve normalised overworking. We mistake burnout for commitment. Eight hours of work a day is enough for the human body and mind. Only when you’re healthy can you give your best. Bringing a burnt-out person back into the system helps no one. In my own office, we work eight hours a day, Monday to Friday. We have maternity and paternity policies. We should normalise bringing children to work.”
