Dubai: Young teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi didn’t fire, for a change, but that didn’t prevent the Indian colts from brushing aside Pakistan by 90 runs in a Group A clash of the Under-19 Asia Cup here on Sunday.
Asked to bat first in the 50-over contest, the Indians lost 14-year-old Suryavanshi in the fourth over. The boy from Bihar, who has been rewriting records left, right and centre, smashed 171 off 95 balls with a barrage of 9 fours and 14 sixes two days ago against hosts UAE. Against Pakistan, however, he was caught and bowled by left-arm seamer Mohammad Sayyam for 5.
Skipper Ayush Mhatre, another future Team India star in the making, and Kerala boy Aaron George steadied the innings. On a track which had some assistance for bowlers, Aaron went on to make 85 off 88 balls, while Rajasthan teen Kanishk Chohan cracked a run-a-ball 46 to lift India to 240.
Pakistan tried to make a match of it, but once the first wicket went down in the ninth over, the floodgates opened.
Medium-pacer Deepesh Devendran bagged 3/16 and Kanishk showed his all-round values with a fine spell of 10-1-33-3.
