Mumbai: Ajay Devgn, one of the producers of Kajol-starrer horror thriller ‘Maa’, has defended the 8-hour shift demanded by working mothers.
Ajay was asked the question during the trailer launch event, in reference to the recent controversy over Deepika Padukone’s exit from ‘Spirit’.
“It’s not that it’s not going down well with people. Most of the honest filmmakers will not have problems with it. And apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, most people have started working eight-nine hours shifts,” replied the actor-producer.
“It’s person to person, and I feel most of the industry understands this,” he added.

For the unversed, Deepika was apparently dropped from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’ after she refused to work beyond 8 hours.
Tabloids quoted sources claiming that Deepika’s high remuneration demands and starry tantrums didn’t go down well with Vanga, who replaced her with Triptii Dimri.
Directed by Vishal Furia, ‘Ma’ revolves around a “mother who becomes Kali to end a demonic curse rooted in fear, blood, and betrayal.”
Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, the film is produced by Ajay and Jyoti Deshpande, and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak.
Besides Kajol, the film stars Kherin Sharma, Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, Gopal Singh, Surjyasikha Das, Yaaneea Bharadwaj, Roopkatha Chakraborty in key roles.
The film will be released on June 27.
