New Delhi: While Pakistani leaders like Bilawal Bhutto Zardari continue to stoke the flames through inflammatory statements, a section of social media users from that country has condemned the Pahalgam killings and called for peace. Some of them have even used humour to attack their own government for its failures.
While speaking at an event on the bank of the Indus at Sukkur in Pakistan, Zardari, the country’s former foreign minister said: “Either water will flow in this Indus, or their blood will.” He was commenting on India’s decision to formally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, a water-sharing agreement between the two countries that has stood since 1960.
“He (Modi) says they are heirs to a civilisation thousands of years old, but that civilisation lies in Mohenjo Daro, in Larkana. We are its true custodians, and we will defend it. India has accused Pakistan of the Pahalgam incident, with Modi making false allegations to conceal his own weaknesses and deceive his people. He has unilaterally decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, under which India had acknowledged that the Indus belongs to Pakistan. Standing here in Sukkur by the Indus, I want to tell India that the Indus is ours and will remain ours,” Zardari said.
Many social media users in Pakistan do not subscribe to such rhetoric as they realise that India is seething with anger at the massacre of innocents by terrorists with links to their country.
One such netizen wrote: “The funniest shit is, there is absolutely nothing India can threaten us with that we aren’t already suffering from at the hands of our government. Pani rok louge? (You will stop our water?) Waise hi nahi aata (It doesn’t come anyway), Maar douge? (You will kill us?) Humari govt maar hi rahi hay (Our own govt is already doing that). Lahore le louge? (You will take Lahore?) Le lo, adhay ghantey baad khud wapis kar jaoge (Take it, you will return it yourself in half an hour).”
Other social media users have posted that they want peace with India and are ready to trade their corrupt leaders and generals for a solution to this mess.
