Mumbai: YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s crass ‘sex’ remark on Samay Rana’s talent show ‘India Got Latent’ sparked public outrage, with many demanding a complete ban on the show for promoting vulgarity.
Amid the ongoing controversy over Ranveer’s objectionable comments, comedy king Kapil Sharma’s ‘Maa-Baap Ki Kabaddi’ joke from an old episode of ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ has started doing the rounds on social media.
In that episode, aired on February 19, 2023, Kapil, while talking about the craze of Indian fans for cricket said, “Kai toh itne shaukeen hote hain, subah 2 baje hi uth jaate hain. Cricket dekhne ke liye. Cricket ka match shuru hona hota hai 4 baje. Phir ye maa baap ki kabaddi dekh ke so jaate hain (Some are such fans that they wake up at 2 am for a 4 am match. So they watch their parents wrestle and go back to sleep.”
As soon as the video clip of Kapil’s show resurfaced, netizens drew parallels with Ranveer’s controversial crass remarks and threw shade on Kapil.
“Why this issue wasn’t raised?” wrote @x.memez1 along with the post.
“And people say family show hai ye,” commented another.
“I highly respected Kapil Sharma but ya banda kitna bhi gande jokes mare ise koi criticise nahi karega because iske puche pura bollywood ka haath hai but agar koi independence/ self made banda ya kare toh pura India uske against ho jata hai 🙏🏼 ( Kapil Sharma show is family show and latent is adult show and show ke starting main bhi disclaimer hota hai),” wrote another.
“Ye toh mazak tha bhai hasi toh ani chahiye baki samay ho kare woh vulgarity hai,” commented another.
“Wo kre to comedy, samay kre to vulgarity,” shared another.
“Saying directly & indirectly is both different things that’s also called “limits”,” wrote a user.
The clip shared by IG account @x.memez1 on Wednesday, received more than 3 million views on Instagram in less than a day.

Meanwhile, Ranveer, who was summoned by Khar Police for interrogation following an FIR against him, failed to turn up before police on Thursday.
The YouTuber has been asked to appear before Khar Police on Friday.
The controversy erupted after Ranveer asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents… or join in once and stop it forever?” on ‘India’s Got Latent.’
