‘Amit Shah Will Meet Indira Gandhi’s Fate’: Khalistan Supporter Threatens Home Minister

Amritsar: Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh on Thursday issued a chilling threat to Amit Shah.

The chief of ‘Waris Punjab Ke’, a radical group, said the Union Home Minister will meet the same fate as that of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi if he tried to scuttle the Khalistan movement.

“Amit Shah had said that he won’t let Khalistan movement rise. I had said that the same was done by Indira Gandhi & if you do the same, then you’d have to face consequences. If the Home Minister says the same to those demanding ‘Hindu Rashtra’, then I’ll see if he remains the Home Minister,” Amritpal said.

Thousands of the Sikh separatist leader’s supporters clashed with Punjab Police near Amritsar when they were demanding the release of his close aides Toofan Singh and Baldev Singh, who were arrested in a kidnap and assault case.

Police personnel were outnumbered as the aggressive protesters broke through barricades at Ajnala, 25 km from Amritsar, to march towards the town’s lone police station.

The group of around 2,000 protesters assembled at the town bordering Pakistan hours after blocking the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway.

Indira was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards as retaliation of military action at the Golden Temple ordered by India’s first female PM.
