Amphan Brings Rain & Gale; Know The Wind Speed In These Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Amphan battered through the coastal belt of Odisha and West Bengal on Wednesday morning.

It was about 120 km east-southeast of Paradip (Odisha) at 8.30 am and is likely to cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts between Digha (west Bengal) and Hatiya Islands (Bangladesh) close to Sunderbans. The landfall process will commence from afternoon, the latest IMD bulletin said.

Under its influence, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Kendrapada districts experienced intense spell of rain this morning.

“Gale wind speed reaching 90 to 100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is prevailing along and off Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts and squally wind speed reaching 55 to 65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is prevailing along and off remaining coastal districts of Odisha (Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur),” the Met office said.

It will gradually increase becoming 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 125 kmph along and off these North Odisha from forenoon to afternoon, it added.

“The strong wind all continue till 2 pm in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak and Balasore from afternoon till evening,” IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.
