Amritsar: The main accused in the grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar was killed in a police encounter on Monday, according to reports. The accused, identified as Gursidak Singh, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital after being shot at by cops. However, his accomplice, Vishal, managed to escape.
Reports claimed that police had received specific intelligence inputs about the accused moving around the Rajasansi area. A team comprising personnel from the CIA and Chheharta police was sent to the spot to detain the accused duo.
When cops chased the accused duo on their motorcycle, they abandoned the vehicle. The accused opened fire at the cops. Head Constable Gurpreet Singh was hit on the left arm. Inspector Amolak Singh was also hit by a bullet. A third round hit a police vehicle. In self-defence, Inspector Vinod Kumar fired back. This time, the accused was hurt.
On March 15, a grenade attack was carried out on the Thakurdwara temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area. CCTV footage captured two men on a motorcycle stopping outside the temple before one of them threw an explosive device at the temple, leading to a powerful blast. However, there were no casualties.
