Another Farmer Commits Suicide Over Crop Loss In Sambalpur
Sambalpur: A farmer allegedly committed suicide over crop loss and loan burden at Ulunda village under Mahulapalli police limits in Sambalpur district on Monday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Bimal Kisan.
According to the family members, Kisan was under severe tension after finding crop loss and took the extreme step last evening fearing that he would not be able to repay the loan.
He was admitted to VIMSAR in Burla in a critical condition. However, he passed away while undergoing treatment.
On August 31, a farmer identified as Balaram Gunta allegedly committed suicide at Malimarla village under Pattangi police limits in Koraput district.
His family members said he took the extreme step due to crop loss and the burden of debt. He was unable to repay the loan and had been under tremendous mental stress.
According to sources, Balaram had consumed poison the previous night and was immediately taken to the district headquarters hospital, where died this morning.
A similar incident was reported from Balangir district on August 24 when a farmer, who had attempted suicide by consuming pesticide, succumbed while being shifted to VIMSAR in Burla from the Balangir district headquarters hospital after his condition deteriorated.
He was identified as Bhagat Sagaria of Kuliadora village under Tureikela block in the district.
Bhagat had taken loan from money lenders of Kantabanji. He tried to end his life while he had gone to attend nature’s call near his house.
He was immediately rushed to the Kantabanji Hospital and later referred to the Balangir district headquarters hospital. He died while being shifted to the Burla Medical College Hospital.
