Bhubaneswar: A state-of-the-art film city will soon come up over 650 acres at Khallikote in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The Bhumi Pujan ceremony is slated for April 16.
The one-point destination for filmmakers close to Chilika Lagoon is the brainchild of actor-entrepreneurSujoy Mukherjee, the son of yesteryear actor Joy Mukherjee.
“This destination is pristine given its tourism potential. But we need government support to make it a world-class facility,” Sujoy was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
The Rs 20,000 crore project will have luxurious apartments, where celebrities of all spheres can spend time, and replicas of the best locales of India and other countries including India Gate, Tajmahal, Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty.
Dr Vinit, who hails from Odisha, is partnering in this project.
The duo will be meeting senior officials of the state to chalk out modalities, the report added.
Notably, a Mumbai-based group had earlier expressed interest in setting up a film city in the state after the Make in Odisha Conclave in 2016. It was to be constructed on the lines of Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad over 1000 acres near Asia’s biggest brackish water lake with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.
