Bhubaneswar: With another low-pressure area taking shape over the Bay of Bengal, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to persist over several parts of Odisha over the next one week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal between 5.8 & 7.6 km above mean sea levels persists. Under its influence, a fresh low-pressure area likely to form over north Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours, it said.

Meanwhile, the low pressure that severely affected northern Odisha lay over southeast Jharkhand & neighbourhood.

Under the impact of the emerging weather conditions, rainfall of varied intensity along with thunderstorm activity is expected to pound several parts of the state till the morning of August 22. The weather agency has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts on various days.

In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj during the next 24 hours.

Similarly, a yellow warning of heavy rainfall was issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, and Khordha during the period.

On August 16-17, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the district of Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, while a yellow alert was sounded for the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Puri, and Khordha.

On August 17-18, a red warning of heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, and Mayurbhanj.

Similarly, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for the district of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kataka, Dhenkanal, and Kendujhar.

A yellow warning has been issued for Jagatsinghapur, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Subarnapur, Boudh, Khordha, and Nayagada districts during the period.

On August 18-19, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall was issued for the district of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, and Baragada, while a yellow alert has been sounded the districts of Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir.

From August 19 to August 22 morning, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places of Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, where a yellow warning has been issued.

The weather agency has forecast squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph occasionally gusting to 55 kmph along and off the Odisha Coast till August 18. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along & off the Odisha coast during the period.

In view of the weather forecast, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha Coast till August 18.
