Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the controversial Yulin Festival kicked off in China on June 21.
During the 10-day festival, thousands of dogs are paraded in wooden crates and metal cages. They are then slaughtered and cooked for consumption.
The Yulin festival, or the dog meat festival, is observed in Yulin city, in Shaanxi province, every year.
Animal lovers across the world have been demanding a ban on this festival.
