Are Salim-Javed Set To Create Magic Again With Their Screenwriting?

New Delhi: The dynamic duo of screenwriting, Salim-Javed, who ruled Hindi cinema in the 1970s may team up once again. At the trailer launch event of their documentary series, ‘Angry Young Men, Javed Akhtar said that they are considering writing one more film together. “We are going to write (the script) now. I have spoken to Salim, ek picture hum aur likh de (let us write one more film together). Uss zamane mein bhi humari price zyada thi, iss zamane mein toh bohot bhi zyada hogi. Woh dekh lijiyega (We used to charge a lot back then, we will charge even more now. Do consider that),” Javed Akhtar was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Their last released film was Mr India, which was released in 1987, many years after they officially parted ways. The idea of the angry young man was introduced in the 1973 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Zanjeer. The duo went on to write films like Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Majboor and Haath Ki Safai. But for their fallout, the writers who always delivered bound scripts to their makers were on their way to becoming the highest-paid writers in the movies.

Some of their films, which went on to become hits were Sholay, followed by Deewaar, Trishul, Don and Shaan. Come the early 1980s, and their partnership fell apart.
