Sundargarh: In a daring armed robbery, masked criminals stormed a house and decamped with cash and valuables after terrorising family members at gunpoint at a village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
As per preliminary information, the robbery took place at the house of a local businessman at Kandabahal village under the jurisdiction of Sundargarh Sadar police station in the wee hours of Sunday.
Sources said a group of around eight miscreants, wearing black clothes, entered the house of Pradeep Patel and tied up the family members. The robbers thrashed them and looted cash and gold ornaments worth a huge amount.
As per initial reports, the robbers decamped with around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and gold ornaments weighing over 100 grams.
The loot took place after the family members were held captive, and the gun-totting robbers escaped through the back side of the house.
On being informed, a special team, including the Additional SP, SDPO, and Sadar police station officials, along with a scientific team and dog squad, visited the spot and launched an investigation. Evidence is being collected, and the case will be cracked soon, a police official said.
The police have intensified the probe, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest.
