Sambalpur: Seven persons, including an army jawan, were arrested during a raid conducted by the police in Burla town in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Thursday.
Sources said the police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,40,560, several vehicles, mobile phones, and gambling materials during the operation conducted at Kandha Market in Burla town.
The raid was carried out after police received information about gambling activities during routine patrolling on Tuesday night. The team stormed the location and caught the accused red-handed.
The arrested men include Bikram Singh (30) of Vishnumandir Pada, Rajkumar Prasad Gupta alias Jilmi (31) of Delhi Market, Muna Prasad (37), Rahul Prasad Gupta (35), Basudev Barik (34), Prahlad Bag (28), and Tejbahadur Chhetri (47) of PG Chhak. Tejbahadur works as a havildar in the SSBN 5th Battalion in Balasore and was on leave, police said.
During the raid, police seized one car, three motorcycles, three scooters, seven mobile phones and 104 playing cards used in the gambling sessions.
