Srinagar: A soldier of Indian Army was killed in a landmine explosion along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday.
The mine blast took place during area domination patrolling in Krishna Ghati area, in which Agniveer Lalit Kumar — of 7 JAT Regiment — lost his life, according to Army officials. Two other soldiers suffered injuries.
“GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati brigade, following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” White Knight Corps posted on X.
The two injured personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were taken to a military hospital for treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.
There was intense cross-border shelling along the Line of Control during Operation Sindoor, as Pakistan tried to launch a retaliatory military action after India destroyed nine selected terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK in the early hours of May 7 to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Though a ceasefire was agreed between the two sides on May 10, Indian Army has had to be alert all the time.
In June, our Armed forces opened fire after noticing suspicious movement in a forward area near the LoC in Rajouri district. Security forces conducted searches at over a dozen places, including in Poonch, Samba and Kathua districts.
India has said time and again that Operation Sindoor is still underway, and any further attack from the Pakistani side will be met with adequately.
Security deployment, in any case, has been heavy in the valley because of the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
