Gurugram: The woman biker who was rammed in the viral Golf Course Road hit-and-run in Gurugram said the arrest of driver Kalyan Bainsla is only the first step, and she wants all four people in the car arrested and given the toughest punishment.
Sia, whose helmet-cam footage triggered national outrage, told reporters she is not satisfied with just one arrest and wants the remaining youths nabbed and punished to create a lasting deterrent.
“I also want to say that their arrest is not something that gives me satisfaction. When people ask me whether they have been arrested, I feel that this is only the first part of the process. All four of these boys should be arrested, and the matter will not be completely resolved with their arrest. Along with the arrest, all four should be given the strictest possible punishment, and an example should be set so that in the future, any boy, whether in a car or on a bike, thinks ten times before harassing any girl,” Sia said, speaking to PTI.
Police have so far taken Bainsla, 33, and his cousin Lavnish, 34, into custody after tracking them to Rajgarh in Rajasthan. Officers said Bainsla briefly tried to flee on the excuse of answering a call of nature, slipped and hurt himself, and was treated at a hospital, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The case has also sparked a war of words. Bainsla’s cousin Kamal alleged Sia was “playing the victim card” and influencing others to ride fast. Sia hit back, noting she had never flaunted her public profile.
“His followers are saying that I am playing the victim card and doing all this for the sake of followers,” she said. “I contested the municipal election from Kalkaji, Delhi, in 2022. I was the youngest candidate. Everyone in Delhi knows me. After the incident, I didn’t want to reveal my identity, but now it has been revealed. I will stand firm for myself. I don’t care what their followers are saying. Their mentality is simply flawed,” she said.
