Sundaragada: Police in Odisha’s Sundaragada district have detained five young men for questioning in connection with the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls in Birmitrapur area.
The harrowing incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening when the victims were returning home after performing Karma Puja.
According to the complaint, a group of youths intercepted the girls near Rata Khandi Maidan area under the pretext of offering them a ride home. They instead lured and took the minors into a nearby forest, where they allegedly subjected them to a sexual assault before fleeing the scene. An FIR was registered at Birmitrapur police station, and officers soon reached the spot to conduct a preliminary investigation.
While the two minor girls have undergone medical examination as part of the probe, police are questioning the five suspects to establish the circumstances of the alleged incident and to identify any other individuals, who may have been involved.
The case has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded swift action and justice for the victims.
