‘Artificial Intelligence Will Wipe Humanity Within 10 Yrs’: 42% Top CEOs Warn In Survey

London: Some of the top business leaders are of the opinion that artificial intelligence (AI) has the ability to wipe humanity within 5-10 years.

In a survey conducted to assess their views on the expanding use of AI, 42% of CEOs were found to believe that the technological revolution could have a frightening effect on humanity.

The survey, conducted by Yale University’s ‘CEO Summit’, was first published by CNN which describes the event as a leadership platform which brings together a range of the top management of globally successful companies.

A total of 119 CEOs participated in the survey, with heads of participating companies including Walmart, Zoom, Coca-Cola and media, pharmaceutical chiefs.

Around 34% CEOs expressed that AI had the potential to destroy humanity in 10 years, while 8% felt that could happen in 5 years.

Others were “not worried” about any such outcome.

Yale University professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld described the results “dark” and “alarming”, CNN reported.

Geoffrey Hinton, who created a foundation technology for AI systems last month, quit his job at Google over “profound risks to society and humanity” due to AI.

Flagging risks associated with the quick pace of advancement in this field, Hinton told New York Times: “Look at how it was five years ago and how it is now… It is hard to see how you can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things.”
