Artist Paints Images Of Sibling Deities On Their Delicacies In Odisha’s Angul

Angul: With COVID-19 preventing the devotees from participating in Rath Yatra in Puri, an artist in the district has come up with a unique piece of art made from the delicacies offered to Lord Jagannath and His siblings.

The artist, Rajat Ranjan Rath of Gangijodi village under Banarpal block, had a desire to visit Puri to participate in the Rath Yatra this year. But he could not fulfil his desire to see Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra atop the chariots after the state government imposed restriction on participation of the devotees in the festival.

Not feeling let down by the government decision which aimed at welfare of the people, Rajat thought of preparing an artistic creation to pray to the Lords to eradicate the disease and save the mankind from its scourge.

He prepared Anna (rice), dal and fried items of brinjal, green leaves and drumsticks and painted the images of the Lords on the food. He offered his creation to Lords with a prayer to save the world from the pandemic.

On June 15, Rajat had paid homage to 20 martyrs of the country at Galwan Ghat by painting their images on bamboo structure.
